For clues and assistance in discovering stories in your family’s past, make plans to attend The Upper Cumberland Family History and Genealogy Festival in Historic Granville on Saturday, July 27, 9 AM – 4 PM. No advance ticket purchase is necessary. Daily tour ticket price of $7.00 for adults will apply for this event.
Speakers and delegates from genealogical societies, historical associations, local archives, and history museums will offer valuable nuggets of wisdom to both novices embarking on family history research and seasoned explorers seeking to delve further into their genealogical journey.
Visitors to Granville will have an opportunity to talk with representatives from the Middle Tennessee Genealogical Society, Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) – Old Walton Road and Crab Orchard Chapters, Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) – Lt William P Quarles Chapter, Gainesboro Kin Seekers, and many historical groups from Upper Cumberland counties: Fentress, Jackson, Pickett, Putnam, Overton, and Smith.
Family Search, one of the premier free research sites, operated by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will be available to help new and experienced researchers find information on their ancestors. Other notable displays will be provided by the Tennessee Tech University Archives and Special Collections.
The Maggart, Stout, Stover and Swallows families are being honored with representatives from those families presenting their family history. The Genealogy Room at the Granville Museum contains photos, records, and information on over 100 families that built this region. Attend the speakers’ sessions for family stories and captivating words of family historians.
Visitors will have an opportunity to step back in time and experience the rich history in Historic Granville’s eight museums and numerous historic sites. There will be a Civil War Enactment in the Pioneer Village. There will be something for everyone from activities for kids to the Final Resting Place table where visitors learn to use grave markers for research. History buffs, individuals with a passion for sharing family history, or those who want to learn more about the region and the people of the area are invited to attend.
