The 5th Annual Granville Scarecrow Festival will be in Historic Granville from October 4th Thru 28th with many new creations for this year's festival. A picture board painted by Artist Todd Woodard and created by Bill Green will be displayed across from Sutton General Store for unique pictures. This year's theme is based on Granville's 2017 Annual Theme of Remembering the 1940's. Local artist Cynthia Mathews has created military Men of 1940's, ladies visiting Granville during the World War II Maneuvers, and Rosie Riveter. Scarecrows being created for children from the 1940's Bambi, Pinocchio and Dumbo and they will join Granville creation of the Wizard of Oz characters.

Historic Granville hosts the largest Scarecrow Festival in Tennessee with hundreds of Scarecrows displayed on the streets and lurking about inside the buildings. Created by Local, artists, individuals and organizations scarecrows designs range from fabulous, funny, clever, wacky and folk-art characters. You will meet important military personnel, Legends of Tennessee and pioneers of a small rural riverboat town.

A guide is created each year of the scarecrows which can be picked up at the shops of Granville. A second guide is part of the Sutton Homestead which is featured with your Guided tour. Historic Granville is open Wednesday thru Friday from 12:00 TO 3:00 with Sutton General Store opening for lunch at 10:00 a.m. each day. On Saturday the store Opens at 10:00 a.m. with rest of town open from 12:00 to 5:00 p.m. Each Saturday Night is the Sutton Ole Time Music Hour with dinner at 5:00 and 6:30 p.m. served By Timberloft Restaurant. Want to view the eclipse in a small quaint rural community with no distractions? Historic Granville located on the Cordell Hull Lake will join other locations across the United States in hosting a "Solar Eclipse Viewing Party" on August 21, 2017, 10AM until 3PM. Official eclipse phase is estimated to begin at 12 noon with the total eclipse occurring at 1:28PM for 2 minutes and 35 seconds. Event headquarters will be T.B. Sutton General Store with chairs and viewing stations located in open spaces near the lake. Multiple sites for viewing are available to allow for a clear viewing.
Activities are being planned for the entire family which will include tours of the Granville Museum, the Sutton Homestead, the Antique Car Museum, and T. B. Sutton General Store. The town has unique shopping at the Granville Gift and Granville Antique Shop. Food and music will be included in the day. Dr. Opless Walker will conduct a talk at 10AM in the Exhibition Center at the Granville Museum explaining the solar eclipse phenomenon We invite you to join our rural community to share in this once in a lifetime event.
This event is free and open to the public. The Eclipse Viewing Kit with special viewing glasses and other souvenir items will be available for purchase. There will be a charge for tours and the food. A special "Out of this World" lunch will be served at Sutton General Store beginning at 10:30 AM, call 931-653-4151 for reservations. Uncle Jimmy Thompson

The Annual Uncle Jimmy Thompson Bluegrass Festival Fiddle Competition winner for 2017 was Jimmy Bilbrey of Cookeville. Jimmy will perform at Bluegrass Nights at the Ryman Auditorium on July 13th. Bluegrass Nights at the Ryman is a series running Thursday nights June 22 through July 27, 2017.  Each show begins at 7:30 PM/CT and are preceded by 650 AMWSM’s free showcase, Pickin’ on the Plaza, featuring regional bluegrass bands on the Ryman Plaza. Jimmy will perform just after intermission and will be right before Dailey & Vincent take the stage to perform the second half of the show.

Every summer for more than two decades, Ryman Auditorium has celebrated their distinction as the birthplace of bluegrass music with their signature Bluegrass Nights summer series. Join them for incredible performances by the biggest names in bluegrass and meet the new comers who are carrying the genre’s rich musical traditions in the future. Tickets are currently available for this show at Ryman.com.

Jimmy Bilbrey is a well know bluegrass performer with bluegrass bands in the Upper Cumberland. He is also one of the weekly announcers of the Sutton Ole Time Music Hour Bluegrass Dinner Show at Sutton General Store, Granville.
